So, today I decided to change up the usual shave and mosturize routine, by trying a different product. I would like to tell you about it, but first, I would like to highlight some shaving techniques, so that everyone in the audience can look and feel as metrosexual as possible.

1) Never shave your face against the grain. Although this does give you a 'smooth-as-a-cue-ball' feeling, this may also (for many men) cause unwanted red bumps aka 'ingrown hairs'. The reason for this is that you are cutting the hairs so close, that they recede once the razor has cut them, causing the pore to close up over the short hair. When that hair tries to grow long again, it has a hard time making its way out.
2) Mosturize as soon as you are done shaving. This allows the your skin to be as supple as possible for future hair growth, as well as taking away possible dryness.
3) Again, never shave your face against the grain. This also causes redness and irritation.
4) To shave around your adams apple, take your index finger and press it against your skin, just below the area which you've lathered on your neck and pull the skin to the side a bit so that you can shave that area against the flatter area of your neck.

Okay, so onto the product comparison.

I had used for some time "Edge Pro Gel", quite similar to the "Gillete Series Shave Gel". I found that although these products are a gel, they were slightly too thin and often times felt like i was shaving with water (even after they lathered up)

I then moved onto "Gillete Foamy" to try to give me the thick lather that I desired and hopefully a smooth glide. I found the product to be so-so, giving me the shave that I desired, however lacking the "fun-factor"

I just recently purchased "Neutrogena Razor Defense Gel" to see what the hype was about. I've used some of the other Neutrogena Men product in the past and was happy with their performance. I completely enjoyed this products experience and would have to recommend it to the metrosexuals of America. I was amazed by the gel's lathering qualities as well as the irritation free glide. I saw the gel being consumed by my razor as it passed over my skin, however I felt no dragging or irritation whatsoever. I was quite impressed and think you will be too. The product is somewhat pricey @ ~$4-5, but I believe worth the cost.

Until Next Time,

Thteve

Steve, that is quite a review there! I look forward to trying Neutrogena product. Hopefully I will find some time to pick up a can, this week!

In addition to your post, I would recommend that you change your razor blade often! I just recently changed my blade, after not having put on a new one for a good 2 months, and boy is there a difference! Smoother shave, don't have to go over the same area twice, and almost no irritation!

Thanks again for the great review, Steve!

I've been using the Schick Quattro the past few weeks, and I'm wondering if it's compatible with this Neutrogena gel. Steve, have you used the Quattro with Neutrogena gel? If you haven't, could you please write a hypothesis on usage of the said combination?

James, Mr. Um,

I am anxious to try the Schick Quattro. It sounds like it allows for quite the baby's bottom shave. And I can't think of anyone that would enjoy a baby's bottom on their face more than Supz Jones.

In response to Mr. Um, my testing was primarily executed with a Gillette Mach 3 (not turbo). IMHO, the Turbo increased the glide factor so much that it seemed almost to not be giving me the closest shave as compared to the standard Mach 3. The other reason that I use the Mach 3 is that I bought a 20 pack at Costco and havent run out of them yet. Laughing

In any case, I believe that the gel in which i spoke of IS in fact compatible with your Mach 3 Turbo, but do make sure to read the Razor Requirements on the package before you drop $4-5.

Scrabble anyone?

I used the Neutrogena product for quite some time and then this xmas I got a badger hair shaving brush and its compliments. I must say that the shaving brush/shave soap combination with a mach 3 turbo razor is even better than my Neutrogena experience. It raises all the hairs on your face to be easier attacked by the lightsaber like mach 3 turbo. Definitely if you can try out a shaving brush.

Why settle for 3 blades when you can have so much more

Seriously though, I just completed my trial run of the Schick Quattro, and have decided to make the switch. If you thought the Mach 3's pivoting head was nice, wait until you experience what the Quattro can do for you.

Here's the deal though: I'm more of a Gillette man. When Gillette decides to step it up, maybe add a blade or two, perhaps even a linux server, or Join Arnold coaster, then we'll talk. Gillette just needs to throw down, and now.

Paul, did you try the Neutrogena product? If you did, can you provide a brief review.

Thanks,

The Management

James. I am ashamed to say it, but no, I have not yet tried the Neutrogena product. Perhaps if you could ask your contacts at Neutrogena to send me a free trial sample?

Hello again ladies & metrosexuals... I am currently writing from my Axim handheld. I would have to agree with Andrew about the shaving brush & shave soap combo. That stuff works woders. I would also like to tell you all about another group of inexpensive products by Clinique for men, which have been gracing my face since Christmas. I am fairly leery of accepting new products to my face as I have fairly sensative skin, however the following seem to work well.

The products:

Clinique for Men Cream Shave

This product is unbelievably light and although I know I wrote in previous posts of my disinterest with the Mach III Turbo; coupled with a Mach III Turbo, this product works unbelievably well. The cream itself is extremely light unlike the Neutrogena gel, giving the blades an extra close cut.

Clinique for Men Face Scrub

This product does an outstanding job of scrubbing off any dry/dead skin you may have due to harsh winter weather. Just watch out for on/around your eyes as its astringent qualities feel sort of like spraying Binaca (breath freshener) in your eye sockets.

Clinique for Men Post-Shave Healer

Finally, the post-shave healer does an excellent job of applying just the right amount of moisture to your face (especially important after a shave) wihtout feeling like a greasy italian.

I give these products 4.5 of 5 stars and will give you an update on Clinique for Men's other products shortly. In particular their 3-step system...

Steve, I'd like to thank you.

I purchased the Neutrogena Razor Defense gel, and combined with the close shave of the Schick Quattro, the doors to shaving heaven have beend.

Thank you Steve, thank you.
